Third Assignment:
Argument
This assignment I composed while living out a fire at my house. Although in relation to other house fires, ours was small and could have been much worse, it still made a tremendous impact on my life and my families as well. It all started with a few tweets, where I got my inspiration, that reflected upon my emotional reactions compared to my daughters reaction. The way a message is perceived determines the reaction.
The repented for this piece is fire. I incorporated vibrant shades of fire, reds, oranges, and yellows. As well as, the question"What if?" This experience was an eye opener for me. I have little control over what happened nor do I over the clean up process either. This fearful event caused me rationalize all of the close call "What if" scenarios. The "what if's turned into an internal interrogation focused on the Could I's ? Should I's? As in Could I have prevented it? Should I have done things differently.
This assignment has become a memoir of that day. Emotionally it made things easier to deal with. By documenting what had happened and how I was feeling I was able to remind myself that we will get through this and that it could have been much worse. Looking up videos and pictures of fire damage put into perspective just how very lucky we were that day. .
I feel by embedding the pictures and videos I chose I was able to interact with my audience. My hope was to express the up's and down's of the situation with vivid pictures that will stick in the minds of my audience for a long time. I was able to show the emotional toll it had taken on me and my daughter. I was able to really show my fear then back to being composed. This assignment introduced me to a writing style that is based on imagery and emotions. This was a new way of telling a story for me but once I got started, I was really into trying to make my images display the emotions from that day. Using color and size contrast I was able to bring urgency and draw my audiences attention to various details throughout the story. I feel using a variety of writing techniques I was able to compose a compelling re-cap of that day. A day I will never forget! This version of the memoir is much efficient then if I had simply documented the events in traditional style of font and format. That would have little to offer my audience visually and audibly, leaving much up to their imagination. This style of writing I am inviting my audience to hear, see and feel the events of the day with me.
