Prologue
The Tweeting Maxims assignment initially included finding maxims that we each liked and associated with. I had to first learn what the criteria of a maxim was and how one was considered to be a substantial maxim. Looking online and more closely at the places around me I found an abundance of maxims. There were so many it was hard to choose just a few. I tried to find the ones that I felt like I connected with in some way. Such as the humor, inspiration or empowerment I found in the words.
In addition, I had only used Twitter on a minimal basis prior to this class. I found, tweeting itself, to be overwhelming at first. I wanted to make sure I was "doing it right", but, what I learned was that there really is no "right" so, I finally dove right in.
Upon completion of our tweets, we were instructed to create a network of controlling values for each of our found maxims. It was different to really think about each of the maxims from a new perspective. I was focused on the fact that the network of controlling values was leading up to thinking of my own interpretations of the found expressions.
I had personal hang-up’s, wanting clarification that my original maxims were substantial. Again, I was so concerned with just doing it right. And once again there was no "right." Once I got over this initial reaction, the assignment was a lot of fun and I came up with some maxims that I am pretty proud of. These assignments have taught me that at times I am my own worse enemy. The battle in my head to make sure things are perfect hinders my creativity. Thankfully, this class has been a break through in this hang-up and has taught me this is something that I not only need to be aware of, but also change. I gained significant confidence with each new original maxims I created. I have learned so much through this experience, pushing me to venture into different genres and styles of writing that I lacked confidence in.
